Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
