A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pastimes much better than checking the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid yelling at relatives. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements emerged over the holidays, and should you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. However, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
